Up to Now

Hello.

I've missed a progress post on La Petite Maison, so I need to tell you all that happened in August and September last year.

The Sarge and I went in August with a car full of things.  It was just the two of us (no children.)  We stayed for a night in Arras in Northern France and spent the day looking around the WW1 cemeteries.    It was a sobering day.  At lunch time we headed south.  One of the things in the car was this bed.  It was spotted by The Boss on eBay and she managed to secure it for the princely sum of £5.00.  Yes £5.00.  It was in Bristol, a short drive from home so The Sarge and me picked it up.
The first thing we did when we arrived in the house was to make the bed up, which, as it turned out took quite some time ~ always read the instructions.  If you look carefully you can see the extension lead under the bed, this is running off the one 'safe socket' the electrician installed.  I found to cheap fleecy blankets to go underfoot and the camping chairs made great bedside tables.  With it's new plasterboard ceiling the bedroom feels really cosy.
It was wonderful to be above to stay in the house for the first time,  we don't need to be paying for local gites any more.  We had the toilet and sink ~ cold water ~ in the outhouse, this makes things much easier when we're working, no more driving to and fro.  The Sarge and I got on with putting more new ceilings up.
We found some graffiti in the bathroom, not sure if it was put there in 1945.
We gave ourselves one evening off, and went to the night market at nearby Charolles.  There was a lovely family atmosphere and we stopped for a crepe and a beer.
We left one of our bedside lights on, so when we arrived back La Petite Maison looked so welcoming.
We had four days work and then came home.

In September The Boss, Smiley and Smiley's Dad hired a van and took the kitchen, washing machine, fridge, sofa and various other bits of furniture we have acquired or bought cheaply through eBay.
